Heidegger's interpretations of the poetry of Hlderlin are vital to Heidegger's later philosophy and feature decided the mainstream reception of Hlderlin's poetry. Gosetti-Ferencei argues that Heidegger has missed crucial components in Hlderlin's poetics, equivalent to a Kantian realizing of aesthetic subjectivity and a dedication to Enlightenment beliefs. those components, she argues, face up to the extra politically distressing facets of Heidegger's interpretations, together with Heidegger's nationalist valorization of the German language and experience of nationhood, or Heimat. In the context of Hlderlin's poetics of alienation, exile, and wandering, Gosetti-Ferencei attracts a special version of poetic subjectivity, which engages Heidegger's later philosophy of Gelassenheit, calmness, or letting be. Example text

Error is inevitable for Heidegger because poetic language, as he sees it, is a dangerous task of venturing beyond the bounds of humanism; freedom is collapsed into the fate of this venturing. While Heidegger is right to highlight error as possibljr attending poetical articulation, given the partiality of the latter, such error is ascribable not to destinal sending but to the fragility of the relationship between poetical experience and truth. Freedom as Heidegger sees it is intestmined bvith the notion of destiny; I bvill argue, in chapter 7, for a notion of freedom that pertains to the spontaneity of poetic language.

If the history of metaphysics has forgotten Being -and the technological objectification of the bvorld is the counterpart of this forgetting, as \Ire bvill discuss in chapter 4 -the task at metaphysics' end is its recollection, one that takes on historical dimensions. In the writings after Beity rrnd Zlze, the historical dimension of Being concerns no longer the historicality (Gc~L~cbic~htlicbkeit) of Dasein's own temporality (Zeitlic-hkeit),but rather the Seitz,ye,~rhie-hte, and the task of Heidegger's Critique of Subjectivity 29 thinking a "history of Being" concerns overcoming the forgetting of Being on the part of subjectivity- both in philosophj~,as metaphj~sics, and in the world of engagement, as technological manipulation that "enframes" (Ge-,fteII,,fte//t)the earth.

Although the critique of subjectivity does not exhaust Heidegger's overcoming of metaphysics, it is informed by every factor of 30 Heidegger's Critique of Subjectivity his critique, conceptualizing Being as \\,hat he calls the metaphysics of presence: technological thinking, scientific rationality, humanism, and anthropocentrism. The history of the subject -culminating in various essential historical-philosophical moments, for instance in Descartes, Hegel, Nietzsche -is, according to Heidegger, a history of forgetting, at the end of bvhich philosophy has exhausted its capacities for a thinking of Being.
